Task: To create a Google map and a descriptive paragraph that show three important locations in your life.

The locations you will show are:
  1. Your current home in Hsinchu.
  2. Your home in your home country.  If you are a local student, please show your favorite city in Taiwan to visit.
  3. The location of HIS.
How to create your Map
  1. Open your Gmail account.
  2. At the very top of your Gmail page, in the black strip, click on the word maps.
  3. When your map page opens, look at the very bottom on the left.  In small blue letters you'll see the words Map Labs.  Click on the words Map Labs.  A new dialogue box will open.
  4.  Enable the Distance Measurement Tool by clicking enable.  Scroll down and do the same with the LatLong Marker.
  5. Click on Save Changes
  6. Click on My Places at the top of your map page.
  7. Type Taiwan into the search bar.
  8. Click on Create map.  Give your map a name.
  9. Click unlisted below the description box.
  10. Find your home, use a place marker to mark it.
  11. To drop a place marker click on the blue upside down teardrop at the top of the map.  Then Click on the location to drop the marker.
  12. Do the same with HIS and your home in your home country, or your favorite city in Taiwan, if you are a local student.
  13. Use the LatLong marker to find each absolute location.
  14. Use the Distance measurement tool to find the distances between your two homes, or your home and your favorite city in Taiwan.
  15. SAVE your map.
  16. Go to the Words and Dates blog and create a new post.  Embed the Google map in your post.
  17. To embed the map in your blog post:  On the map page you created click on the little paper clip at the top of the page..  You will be given two choices.  Choose the second, or lower box, that says Paste HTML to embed in website.  Copy and paste the html text into your blog post.
What your paragraph must describe:
  1. The absolute location of each of your locations.
  2. The relative location of each of your locations.
  3. State the distance between your home in Hsinchu and your home in your home country.
Your paragraph must be written in the same post that you embed your Google map in.
The project is worth 20 points.  10 points for the map, and 10 points for the paragraph.
