Create the archaeological Record for the next 2000 years


Use your imagination to create a colour diagram with labels and explanations of how each layer is formed.

Your drawing must contain:
  • A location – show your location in your title.
  • Your drawing must contain eight layers.
  • Your drawing must show the four elements contained in the archaeological record; bones, fossils, ruins and artifacts.
  • your drawing must show care and attention to detail.

The project is due on Thursday November 10th.

For Grade Five. Wringer : Final Response Instructions

Hello Fifth Graders,

You are going to create a five slide Google presentation as your final response to Wringer.  When the presentation is done please post it on your blog.  Send a link to your blog post to the following email:  pholt.his@gmail.com.

To create your presentation please choose your favorite three responses to Wringer from your response journal. With each response create a slide that contains your edited and revised response, and an image that represents the response.

Your final slide should be a new response that shows how you felt about the story over all.  Did you learn something?  Did you like the story?  Could you describe any themes?

Instruction to post your Google presentation on your blog:

1.  Go to the top right hand corner of your Google presentation and locate the SHARE           button.  Click on the little arrow attached to the share button.
2.  Choose the last choice on the menu:  Publish/embed
3.  On the next screen view choose "Publish presentation"
4.  On the bottom of the next screen view look for a box labeled "copy the code below and paste it into the HTML of any website or blog".
5.  Copy the code in the box
6.   Go to your blog post.  At the top of the text box choose the HTML button.  Paste the code into that box.
7.  Push the compose button.  You should see your presentation in the box.
8.  Give your post a title.
9.  Click on the publish button.
10.  View your published post.  Click on your post title.
11. Copy the address in the address bar, and paste it into an email and send it to pholt.his@gmail.com.

My Important Locations Assignment Fall 2012


Task: To create a Google map and a descriptive paragraph that show three important locations in your life.

The locations you will show are:
  1. Your current home in Hsinchu.
  2. Your home in your home country.  If you are a local student, please show your favorite city in Taiwan to visit.
  3. The location of HIS.
How to create your Map
Go to Google Maps
  1. click on the NEW option in the top right hand corner.
  2. to Enable the Distance Measurement Tool, and the LatLong Marker go to the cog in the top right hand corner of your screen.  Click it and choose Map Labs.  Then click enable Distance Measurement Tool.  Scroll down and click enable LatLong marker.
  3. Type Taiwan into the search bar.
  4. Click on My Maps, then create a new map.
  5. Find your home, use a place marker to mark it.
  6. Do the same with HIS and your home in your home country, or your favorite city in Taiwan, if you are a local student.
  7. Use the LatLong marker to find each absolute location.
  8. Use the Distance measurement tool to find the distances between your two homes, or your home and your favorite city in Taiwan.
  9. SAVE your map.
  10. Go to your blog and create a new post.  Embed the Google map in your post.
  11. To embed the map in your blog post:  On the map page you created choose LINK.  You will be given two choices.  Choose the second, or lower box, that says Paste HTML to embed in website.  Copy and paste the html text into your blog post.
What your paragraph must describe:
  1. The absolute location of each of your locations.
  2. The relative location of each of your locations.
  3. State the distance between your home in Hsinchu and your home in your home country.
Your paragraph must be written in the same post that you embed your Google map in.  
The project is worth 20 points.  10 points for the map, and 10 points for the paragraph.

Your project must be posted our  blog no later than the morning of Wednesday September 12th.

Portfolio of your Poetry

You are going to put together a collection of the poetry you have written for our poetry unit.  You will create a  book that shows off what you have written along with two new poems that you will write.  This is a "real world project" meaning it will not be done using internet applications.  You will need to hand in a hard copy of your portfolio.  Your portfolio must contain the following:

  1. A cover page (3 points)
  2.  one page for each of your concrete, free verse, cinquian, and diamante poems (8 points each).
  3. two new poems written by you, each on one page ( 6 points each).
  4. The first page after the cover page will be titled "What is poetry?" and will contain the definition of poetry that you chose (3 points).
You will also be awarded 10 points for creative effort.  This means you should consider adding:
  • adding images to enhance the meaning of your poems.
  • special details that make your portfolio unique and interesting.
  • colour colour colour!!
  • hand writing your poetry.
This needs to be handed in on Friday February 11th.
